Did You Know…
Just before the laser is fired, a jet of frozen air is sent to the skin to protect the skin from the laser energy and to decrease the pain.
The idea behind the CoolSculpt machine started after doctors noticed that children who sucked on popsicles lost the fat in their cheeks without damage to the skin. It is amazing what can develop from a simple observation.
Neurotoxins are medications developed from the bacteria known as clostridium botulinum. Researchers noticed that people infected with this bacterium had suffered muscle weakness. Dysport and Botox have been developed from this discovery.
The same laser that is used for hair removal, can get rid of toe nail fungus.
In the 1450s, women would shave their pubic hair to get rid of lice. And then they would have a pubic hair wig made as a replacement.
The word “Cosmetic” is derived from the Greek word “Kosmos” which means “of this world.”
A tan can absorb some of the energy of laser light and prevent the laser light from reaching the hair follicle. Do not get a tan before laser hair removal.
In the past some doctors tried to dye the patient hair dark so that more of the laser energy would be absorbed by the hair and thereby the laser would more effectively remove the hair. Unfortunately, it did not work because the dye did not reach the hair follicle.
The light from a hair removal laser passes through the skin and is absorbed by the hair follicle. The laser energy is absorbed by the hair follicle and is destroyed. Since people have different skin colors, we need to have lasers with a variety of colors of laser light.

This new fractional CO2 Skin Resurfacing Laser produces incredible results, and typically requires just takes one treatment.  You should strongly consider this one-treatment wonder. There are some things you need to know about and ask your Fremont Laser treatment specialist.

Am I a Good Candidate for the Alma Fractional CO2 Laser?

  • Do wrinkles, acne scars, general scars, uneven skin tone, irregular pigmentation, sun damage, or sagging that bother the heck out of you?
  • Do you like the idea of getting one powerhouse treatment instead of several?
  • Are you willing and able to follow at-home directions to achieve the best results possible?  You are a major part of the healing process.
  • Do you have a few days available during which you may not be presentable?

If you answer, “Yes!” to these questions, you are an ideal CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing candidate.

How does the Alma Fractional CO2 Laser Work?

This laser works by cutting multiple small holes in the skin while leaving the surrounding skin intact to help promote healing. Only a laser can be this precise. As the body heals, healthy skin replaces the old and damaged skin.  The laser can be used on your face, neck, and/or chest.

Does the Treatment Hurt?

Pain varies from patient to patient, and depends on how deep the laser treatment penetrates the skin. Most people have some pain, but we do everything that we can to minimize pain. The treatment is fairly quick and any pain you might experience will be over soon.

To keep the treatment comfortable, a topical anesthetic is applied to the skin and you may be given some pain tablets.  After the treatment, most patients describe the immediate feeling as “having a bad sunburn” lasting for twelve hours to two days. You will be given cold compresses to reduce this sensation right after the laser skin resurfacing treatment is complete.

What Kind of Results and Benefits Can I Expect?

No question, people love the results. Their skin looks more radiant and healthy, and scarring and wrinkles are reduced dramatically. Plus, you can expect your skin to continue improving for up to six months following your laser skin resurfacing treatment.

What are the Risks and Side Effects of the Alma Fractional CO2 Laser?

The biggest negative of the treatment is the downtime.  For a few days your skin will ooze clear fluid and you may have blisters.  You will need to stay out of the sun and you may not be very presentable. You can certainly work from home during that time.  After a few days, most patients apply makeup and venture out in public, but your skin will still be pink and sensitive.

Because getting this treatment is like getting multiple non-invasive procedures at once, it can take anywhere from 7-14 days to heal. During this healing period, you can expect areas of redness, crusting, peeling, and oozing. Lovely, right? The degree of any of these side effects will depend on how aggressive and in-depth your procedure is.

Taking care of your skin after the laser treatment and staying out of the sun will help you heal faster and get the best results.
