Did You Know…
The same laser that is used for hair removal, can get rid of toe nail fungus.
Neurotoxins are medications developed from the bacteria known as clostridium botulinum. Researchers noticed that people infected with this bacterium had suffered muscle weakness. Dysport and Botox have been developed from this discovery.
A tan can absorb some of the energy of laser light and prevent the laser light from reaching the hair follicle. Do not get a tan before laser hair removal.
In the past some doctors tried to dye the patient hair dark so that more of the laser energy would be absorbed by the hair and thereby the laser would more effectively remove the hair. Unfortunately, it did not work because the dye did not reach the hair follicle.
Just before the laser is fired, a jet of frozen air is sent to the skin to protect the skin from the laser energy and to decrease the pain.
In the 1450s, women would shave their pubic hair to get rid of lice. And then they would have a pubic hair wig made as a replacement.
The word “Cosmetic” is derived from the Greek word “Kosmos” which means “of this world.”
The light from a hair removal laser passes through the skin and is absorbed by the hair follicle. The laser energy is absorbed by the hair follicle and is destroyed. Since people have different skin colors, we need to have lasers with a variety of colors of laser light.
The idea behind the CoolSculpt machine started after doctors noticed that children who sucked on popsicles lost the fat in their cheeks without damage to the skin. It is amazing what can develop from a simple observation.

SmartLipo

Ugh, Those Last Few Pounds…

Which is Better CoolSculpting or SmartLipo?

There are as many reasons to shed extra pounds as there are people who want to shed weight. Diet and exercise take time and perseverance. Diet and exercise also may not eliminate those last few stubborn pounds. And, there is always the fact that some of us simply don’t have the patience and prefer a quicker method. It used to be that liposuction was the quick fix to get rid of fat fast. Luckily, times have changed. Today, a new generation of fat removal offers a better solution in terms of end results, downtime, ease and cost.

SmartLipo is one of those solutions. It involves surgery, is laser-assisted and may include some downtime. In SmartLipo, the laser energy is penetrated through the skin by a fiber optic cable. This liquefies the fatty tissue, which is then sucked out with a liposuction cannula. The surgery is minor compared to traditional liposuction, and clients heal faster. SmartLipo also involves the use of anesthesia, so it is more invasive than other options like CoolSculpting.

CoolSculpting is a procedure that uses a cooling technology to remove fat cells without having to go through anesthesia, surgery and recovery. The procedure is done with a cooling device that targets and freezes fat cells. The fat cells die and the body removes the fat cells naturally.

Performed on many stomach areas, CoolSculpting is also effective on love handles, back fat, upper arms, bra strap fat, inner thighs, male breasts and lower buttock. The procedure has fewer risks than surgery and takes very little time to treat per affected area. It’s not called “lunchtime lipo” for nothing. Clients arrive, undergo CoolSculpting while reading, checking email, etc. and go on with their days.

When choosing between these two procedures, you should consider the following:

Your weight

CoolSculpting is used when you want to get rid of smaller bulges, and the client does not have a lot of excess weight. SmartLipo works for patients with larger amounts of weight to shed. This, however, does not mean that either of the two procedures will take care of excess skin left. This can only be solved by a tummy tuck.

Invasiveness

CoolSculpting does not require surgery or downtime. You can have the procedure done and return to normal activities immediately, while SmartLipo requires minor surgery and a client may need three to four days to heal before resuming normal activities.

Nature of treatment and cost

CoolSculpting might require a few appointments for maximum results, depending on your desired outcome and body type. SmartLipo, on the other hand, may require only a one time only visit thereby giving you a faster result. The fact that CoolSculpting requires more visits means that the cost is higher than for SmartLipo, but at the same time, it can also be dependent on how many problem areas a patient may want worked on. The best thing is to compare notes for both case scenarios while at the physician’s office. Costs are affected by number of treatments needed, and should also take into account the downtime you might have post-procedure with SmartLipo.

Outcome of the procedures

With CoolSculpting, the results are mostly predictable as the patient is usually close to ideal weight. The physician may be able to show a client with pictures taken before and after the procedure to help you get an idea of what to expect. This is however not possible with SmartLipo as a physician cannot be sure of the outcome due to surgery and also the risk of complication with anesthesia.
