CoolSculpting is a procedure that does freeze fat cells, but the device is designed to do so without harming other skin cells. Exposed skin to freezing results in frostbite, and can result in the skin dying. You’ve probably heard of extreme cases in which people’s toes and fingers were amputated due to frostbite. At-Home Attempts at “CoolSculpting” are Painful and Dangerous

CoolSculpting is a popular treatment that has been around since 2010. Since the FDA cleared it in 2010, over 700,000 treatments have been performed around the world. Based upon its popularity, it’s clear that people are seeing real and measurable results. But what, exactly, does CoolSculpting do to your body?
The Science Behind CoolSculpting
When you freeze fat cells, they self-destruct. CoolSculpting suctions the skin of the area you’re concerned about, and then it uses a controlled cooling process, called Cryolipolysis, to drop the skin’s temperature down to the temperature needed to kill those fat cells. The body then will eliminate naturally those dead fat cells over the next few weeks, leaving you slimmer.
Cryolipolysis is the secret behind CoolSculpting’s success. Researchers at Harvard Medical School’s teaching affiliate found that fat cells could be targeted with extreme cold to induce lipolysis, which is the breakdown of fat cells. The temperature is key; fat cells can be frozen without harming other tissues (like the skin).
CoolSculpting will specifically target the fat cells in areas that concern you. A gel pad is placed over the skin to protect it. Surrounding tissues are not affected. Finally, avoid over training. Muscles need rest to develop. Therefore, ensure that you get enough rest after workouts for better results. Remember, toning your body is about the reduction of fat and increase of muscle. Not overexerting one group.
