Did You Know…
A tan can absorb some of the energy of laser light and prevent the laser light from reaching the hair follicle. Do not get a tan before laser hair removal.
Neurotoxins are medications developed from the bacteria known as clostridium botulinum. Researchers noticed that people infected with this bacterium had suffered muscle weakness. Dysport and Botox have been developed from this discovery.
The same laser that is used for hair removal, can get rid of toe nail fungus.
The light from a hair removal laser passes through the skin and is absorbed by the hair follicle. The laser energy is absorbed by the hair follicle and is destroyed. Since people have different skin colors, we need to have lasers with a variety of colors of laser light.
The idea behind the CoolSculpt machine started after doctors noticed that children who sucked on popsicles lost the fat in their cheeks without damage to the skin. It is amazing what can develop from a simple observation.
In the past some doctors tried to dye the patient hair dark so that more of the laser energy would be absorbed by the hair and thereby the laser would more effectively remove the hair. Unfortunately, it did not work because the dye did not reach the hair follicle.
Just before the laser is fired, a jet of frozen air is sent to the skin to protect the skin from the laser energy and to decrease the pain.
The word “Cosmetic” is derived from the Greek word “Kosmos” which means “of this world.”
In the 1450s, women would shave their pubic hair to get rid of lice. And then they would have a pubic hair wig made as a replacement.

Understanding CoolSculpting

The Science and Results Behind CoolSculpting

coolsculpt_understandingCoolSculpting is a popular treatment that has been around since 2010. Since the FDA cleared it in 2010, over 700,000 treatments have been performed around the world. Based upon its popularity, it’s clear that people are seeing real and measurable results. But what, exactly, does CoolSculpting do to your body?

The Science Behind CoolSculpting

When you freeze fat cells, they self-destruct. CoolSculpting suctions the skin of the area you’re concerned about, and then it uses a controlled cooling process, called Cryolipolysis, to drop the skin’s temperature down to the temperature needed to kill those fat cells. The body then will eliminate naturally those dead fat cells over the next few weeks, leaving you slimmer.

Cryolipolysis

Cryolipolysis is the secret behind CoolSculpting’s success. Researchers at Harvard Medical School’s teaching affiliate found that fat cells could be targeted with extreme cold to induce lipolysis, which is the breakdown of fat cells. The temperature is key; fat cells can be frozen without harming other tissues (like the skin).

CoolSculpting will specifically target the fat cells in areas that concern you. A gel pad is placed over the skin to protect it. Surrounding tissues are not affected. Compared to other procedures which use heat, ultrasound or injections, CoolSculpting is virtually risk-free when it comes to skin, nerve or muscle damage.

Results

CoolSculpting results in a permanent reduction of fat cells. Once fat cells are gone, they do not return; this is because every person’s body only has a finite number of fat cells. They do not regenerate.

Results will be seen in a few weeks, as those fat cells are eliminated from the body. You will notice small improvements day by day.

The remaining fat cells condense, which reduces the fat layer, making you look slimmer and reducing inches. On average, most patients see anywhere from a 20 to 30 percent reduction in fat (in the treated area) from a single treatment. In fact, most people report dropping one or two dress sizes.

However, doctors point out that while this is a permanent reduction of fat cells, you still need to diet and exercise in order to control the fat cells you have left. If you gain weight, that weight has to go somewhere, and it will go to your remaining fat cells, which will expand. However, for those stubborn areas that are resistant to exercise, CoolSculpting can give you the shape for which you’ve been dieting and exercising to achieve.

Exercise and Diet and STILL Can’t Get Toned?

Why All the Exercises in the World Can’t Sculpt Certain Trouble Spots

diet-exersice-coolsculptConsistent workouts and sit ups later, some areas just aren’t cooperating. Toning your body involves increasing muscle and reducing body fat. This allows the muscle to be visible, such in the case of “six-pack” abs. There are many exercises for toning different parts of the body; your arms, your abs, your legs, hips, smaller back, and back among others. However, not all exercises will help you achieve results in these areas.

Here are some common mistakes that you might be making:

  • Increasing the number of reps for a certain exercise
  • Using lighter weights and expecting results
  • Using machines to get your body toned
  • Buying toning equipment you heard about that may not give you the required results
  • Using products and supplements, that promise results through sensational marketing

All you need to gain results in various trouble spots is to build enough muscle in the area and reduce body fat for the muscle to gain visibility. Right? Not always. To help gain optimal results from diet and exercise, ensure you’re giving yourself the support you need.

Proper Nutrition

Eating healthy is necessary to gain the best results from your workout sessions. You can work out for five days each week and burn many calories; nonetheless, if you are not eating right, you are likely to gain no results in sculpting certain areas.

Ensure you eat vegetables, fruits, proteins, and healthy fats to gain results from exercising. Avoid chips, crackers and pretzels as snacks, choose salmon as opposed to steak, and snack on nutrient rich food.

Eating three solid meals a day is a misconception when you are exercising. Break this into four to five meals throughout the day to keep your body energized for transition as you work out.

Change Up Your Fitness Routine

Your body needs a variety of exercise to gain results. If you find that a certain exercise does not work for your abs, change it to a different routine. For instance, if sit ups do not reduce the fat on your tummy, you adjust how you do them to gain results. Moving sideways as you incline as opposed to facing upwards as you tilt will improve the side abs.

Change workout routines every three weeks or more. The change shocks the muscles that were not being utilized by the previous routine into action. You will soon see great results for the trouble spots that bother you.

Get Your Cardio In

There is much debate over the need to sweat during your workout. The perspiration issue aside, the key is to get your heart rate up. When your workout feels too easy, push yourself a bit. Use heavier weights or increase reps. Feel your heart rate increase and you know you are doing it right.

Avoid the One Muscle Group Per Day Syndrome

Don’t exercise a single muscle every day. The body needs variety in exercises to gain results faster. You can choose upper body muscles for one session and lower body muscles for the next session. For instance, you can mix chest exercises with back exercises to gain faster results.

Finally, avoid over training. Muscles need rest to develop. Therefore, ensure that you get enough rest after workouts for better results. Remember, toning your body is about the reduction of fat and increase of muscle. Not overexerting one group.

Accept That Some Areas are Stubborn

There are certain areas that are notoriously stubborn to exercise. There are procedures like CoolSculpting designed to target these resistant fat cells when it seems like all the exercise and diet in the world just won’t sculpt stubborn areas.

Freeze That Fat

b-coolsculptMuffin Top, Saddle Bags, Bat Wings, Love Handles, whatever you call it, we do not want those lumps of fat on our body. Unfortunately, the female body is programed to hoard fat for periods of stress such as pregnancy. That can make getting rid of these areas of fat nearly impossible.

Luckily, the cold and the scientists are on your side. Several years ago, doctors noticed that women who rode horses in winter on frozen saddles lost the fat on the inside of their thighs. This led to many experiments, with the discovery that fat does not tolerate cold while the skin and other structures are not harmed by cold.

Thus the CoolSculpt machine was born. The machine works by sucking the fat into a hand piece and then freezing it for an hour. It is an excellent and non-invasive tool to get rid of those stubborn areas of fat. Learn more about CoolSculpting here.
